With Juventus claiming six straight Italian championships, it would be easy to think Serie A has become uncompetitive.
However, Roma were just four points short of the title last season, scoring 90 goals in the division.
There is little to choose between the two teams, but Juve have made avoiding defeat a useful habit in recent campaigns.
Roma lost just two games more than the Old Lady last term, and the margins have remained tight.
The capital club must find a way forward without Totti in their squad, and the removal of his influence from the bench could cost the team ground at the top.

However, dynamic midfielder Radja Nainggolan recently penned a new four-year deal with Roma, warding off suitors.
Per the club's official website (h/t Nick Lustig of Sky Sports), the player spoke of his delight at the new contract: "I think I have demonstrated that this is what I always wanted. So I'm very happy, especially that the club and I can continue our adventure and move forward together."
Juve looked good as they beat ICC holders Paris Saint-Germain 3-2, responding well to being beaten 2-1 by Barcelona in their first game of pre-season.
The Italian champions have appeared weakened in defence after selling Leonardo Bonucci to AC Milan this summer.
Bonucci has been a foundation of the team's success for several seasons, and his departure will force Juve to re-evaluate their defensive mindset.
Prediction

When facing each other in recent years, Roma have fared well against Juve over 90 minutes.
Roma defeated the Old Lady 3-1 at the Stadio Olimpico last season, and they will hope to exploit Bonucci's absence.
Juve have had no issues finding the back of the net during pre-season, but if they battle a more defensive side, there is every chance they will struggle as they search for fitness.
The presence of Paulo Dybala could be the deciding factor. The 23-year-old Argentina international scored 15 goals in Serie A and the UEFA Champions League combined last season, according to WhoScored.com.
Italian football is often defensive, but both sides will be looking for victory at Gillette Stadium.
Score Prediction: Juve 2-1
