Cardale Jones Reportedly Cried 'Tears of Joy' After Chargers Trade

After getting traded from the Buffalo Bills to the Los Angeles Chargers on Wednesday, quarterback Cardale Jones reportedly had an emotional reaction.

According to Adam Schefter on ESPN's Mike & Mike (h/t Scott Davis of Business Insider), Jones cried tears of joy over the new opportunity: "When Buffalo brings him into the office to tell him he's being traded to [Los Angeles] for a conditional seventh-round draft pick, he began crying. He began crying, and he began crying tears of joy, because he was so happy to be going to a place where he felt like he was going to be wanted and appreciated."

The Bills selected Jones in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft out of Ohio State, and he saw limited action as a rookie.

Appearing in the final game of the season, Jones completed 6-of-11 passes for 96 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.

He became expendable during the offseason, however, when Buffalo signed veteran quarterback T.J. Yates and selected Nathan Peterman in the fifth round of the draft as backups to starter Tyrod Taylor.

The Chargers had an opening on their depth chart with veteran Kellen Clemens as the only quarterback of note behind starter Philip Rivers.

Jones will be reunited with Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn, who was Buffalo's offensive coordinator and interim head coach last season following the firing of Rex Ryan.
