Expert College Football Picks: Oklahoma Sooners Vs. Texas Longhorns

Vernon CroyOct 15, 2009

The Red River Showdown is one of the biggest games of the college football season. Every year, Oklahoma and Texas go to battle with the winner having the inside track on the Big 12 South title.

For the last few years, Oklahoma has come in as the favorite with Texas closely behind. Last season, Texas won the game and gave Oklahoma their first loss.

This year, the Sooners have already lost two games coming into the game Saturday. Their national title hopes are all but gone. However, they still have a lot to play for with a Big 12 championship still a possibility. Texas is flying high with an undefeated record and a No. 3 national ranking.

Let’s take a look at the Expert College Football Picks and see what happens in this one. It should be a great game between two good teams.

Oklahoma Sooners Picks

The story of the season for Oklahoma has been playing without Sam Bradford.

Many people felt Bradford would be the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft if he had left last season. However, he decided that he still had something to prove in college and stuck around. Then in the first game of the season, he hurt his shoulder as the Sooners lost the game.

Bradford was out for a few games until he came back last week against Baylor. He came back and immediately threw 49 passes in his first outing. The shoulder appears to be fine, and he should be ready to roll for Texas.

The Sooners always have a very talented team, and this year is no different. They have several pro-caliber players on both sides of the ball. Their defense is strong and can hang with anyone. They will need a good effort from them to keep up with Colt McCoy and the Texas offense.

Texas Longhorns Picks

Texas is still trying to get over one of the biggest slights in BCS Bowl history. Despite beating the Sooners and having only one loss last season, they did not make the national championship game. In fact, the Sooners went on to play in the game after losing to Texas.

It was a hard pill to swallow, and this will be fresh in their minds during the game on Saturday. They know that they have to take care of business every week in order to punch their ticket to the national championship game.

The Longhorns are led by phenom quarterback Colt McCoy. McCoy is not the pure passer that Bradford is, but he definitely knows how to scramble. His mobility allows him to make plays that most quarterbacks could only dream of. He can keep plays alive and usually rushes for several yards over the course of a game.

Outlook

If you're looking for Free Football Picks, expect this to be a battle in the Cotton Bowl on Saturday.

This one may come down to how rusty Sam Bradford is. He didn’t look his best against Baylor after the long layoff. Texas presents a much stiffer challenge defensively than Baylor did. Therefore, his accuracy will play a big part in this game.

Look for one that goes down to the final quarter to be decided.
