Cristiano Ronaldo's Agent Jorge Mendes Reportedly Meets with AC Milan

Gianni VerschuerenJul 27, 2017

AC Milan have reportedly met with Cristiano Ronaldo's representative Jorge Mendes, asking the superagent to inform the Rossoneri should the Portugal international want to leave Real Madrid.

Sky Italia (h/t theย Daily Mirror's Aaron Flanagan) reported the two parties met for discussions in London, where Ronaldo's name came up. Per the report, it's unclear whether the Rossoneri were joking or seriously considering a move should the Ballon d'Or holder decide to leave Real.

The 32-year-old isn't expected to leave Madrid anytime soon, and Serie A would be an odd destination. Italy's top division isn't currently considered as prestigious as La Liga or the Premier League, the home of his former club Manchester United.

Milan have enjoyed a spectacular summer, signing players for a total value ofย ยฃ161 million, per the report. As explained byย Marca'sย Elia Di Marzio, the Rossoneri have been able to exploit a loophole in UEFA's financial fair play regulations, as a voluntary agreement will keep them safe from sanctions this summer.

But even without the threat of FFP, a move for Ronaldo would prove difficult. Flanagan calculated a transfer could cost somewhere between ยฃ350 million and ยฃ450 million when wages are included, and even Milan's Chinese owners would struggle to cough up such a huge amount of money.

Milan haven't contended for the Serie A title in years and haven't been a factor in Europe, either. Their rebuilding process is in full effect, and the club will likely prioritise signing young talent, adding to their impressive riches in that department.

As for Ronaldo, he's more likely to either retire in Madrid or move to MLS at some point in the future, as he continues to build his global brand.
