Lakers Rumors: Ian Clark Reportedly 'Not in the Mix' for Los Angeles

Mike ChiariJul 26, 2017

Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday that free-agent guard Ian Clark is no longer "in the mix" for the Los Angeles Lakers as a potential signing.

That report came after the Lakers signed guard Tyler Ennis to a two-year deal with a team option for 2018-19 on Tuesday, according to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

The 26-year-old Clark spent the past two seasons with the Golden State Warriors, and 2016-17 marked his best campaign to date.

In 77 games as a reserve, Clark averaged a career-high 14.8 minutes, 6.8 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.

He also averaged 6.8 points per contest during the playoffs and helped the Warriors win their second championship in three seasons.

Clark signed with the Utah Jazz as an undrafted free agent out of Belmont in 2013, and he spent parts of two seasons with them before the Denver Nuggets claimed him off waivers.

He carved out a niche with the Dubs, but after they signed Nick Young, he became expendable.

Clark has the potential to produce if given greater responsibility elsewhere, but with the Lakers boasting a deep backcourt consisting of Lonzo Ball, Jordan Clarkson, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Ennis and others, L.A. is no longer an ideal fit.
