Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Renato Sanches, Memphis Depay
Rumoured Manchester United target Renato Sanches has talked up joining AC Milan from Bayern Munich this summer. Meanwhile, Memphis Depay has played down the idea he could return to Old Trafford, despite the Red Devils having first refusal on the Netherlands' forward.
Sanches has admitted the idea of joining the Rossoneri intrigues him, per German publication SportBild (h/t Stuart Ballard of the Daily Express): "AC Milan is an interesting option. If the opportunity arises and the clubs can agree, I would like to see them."
Ballard also detailed United's level of interest in Portugal international Sanches: "Jose Mourinho is understood to be a big admirer of Sanches though and Carlo Ancelotti has admitted a move to United is a 'possibility'."

The interest from United manager Jose Mourinho is understandable since Sanches boasts the attributes the Portuguese boss values in the middle. He's a powerhouse with the strength and drive to boss matches.
Unfortunately, those attributes didn't show up often during the player's debut season in the Bundesliga. Sanches failed to score or register a single assist during his first year with Bayern, per WhoScored.com.
Sanches may have failed to make an impact in Munich, but Bayern still want a hefty fee for the 19-year-old, per Kaveh Solhekol of Sky Sports News:
Even so, some United fans are still keen on the idea of Mourinho bringing Sanches to Manchester this summer. Supporters took to social media to applaud the teenager's performance, per Metro's Sean Kearns, after Bayern beat Chelsea 3-2 in a pre-season friendly in Singapore on Tuesday, per Charlie Eccleshare of the Daily Telegraph.

One player who won't be at Old Trafford this summer is Depay. The winger joined Ligue 1 side Lyon in January, but United have first refusal should he move on.
Despite the clause, Depay isn't thinking about a return to Manchester, per Italian source TuttoMercatoWeb (h/t Ciaran Kelly of the Daily Mirror): "No, to be honest. It’s not in my thoughts. I’m very focused on Lyon, and I’m very happy about my choice, and I don’t think of anything else other than to do the best for this team."
Kelly also noted how Mourinho has hinted at a potential return for Depay: "He didn't succeed in this 18 months, I would say, but he is very young so I think it is important for the club to keep control of this talent."
The idea of Depay eventually getting a second chance at Old Trafford seems fanciful, despite Mourinho's words. After all, the former PSV Eindhoven star laboured through his time at United, seldom showing the pace, trickery and shooting power he relied on to dominate at both club and international level before moving to England's top flight in 2015.
It also seems unlikely United will drop over £40 million on a player still as unproven at the highest level as Sanches.

Mourinho has made it clear he wants a winger and a central midfielder brought in before the end of this transfer window, per Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News.
However, United may need to cast a wider net to come up with more suitable and high-profile targets than Sanches and Depay, with Luckhurst mentioning Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic, Chelsea's Nemanja Matic and Eric Dier of Tottenham Hotspur as candidates.
