Jacob deGrom Ties New York Mets Record for Consecutive Wins in a Season

New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom allowed just two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out eight during Monday's 5-3 victory over the San Diego Padres.

With Monday's win, the 29-year-old hurler has now earned a victory in eight straight outings, tying the team's franchise record for the most consecutive starts notching a win, per ESPN Stats & Info. Bobby Jones (1997), David Cone (1988) and Tom Seaver (1969) sit tied with deGrom atop the leaderboard.

DeGrom's victory moved his season record to 12-3, also lowering his ERA to 3.30 while notching 152 strikeouts over 133.2 innings through 20 starts.

The 6'4" hurler has dominated the majors since entering the league in 2014. Over 96 career major league starts, deGrom owns a 2.86 career ERA while posting a 12-3 record over that span.

Unfortunately, deGrom's success hasn't resulted in on-field success for the Mets this season. The club claims just a 46-51 record through 97 games this season, good for third in the National League East behind the Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves.

The Mets have had recent postseason success, earning a berth in each of the last two seasons. While neither resulted in a championship for the franchise, it did result in a trip to the World Series and an eventual 4-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals in 2015.

Small trade rumors have begun to revolve around deGrom as the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline approaches. While it would be surprising to see the Mets deal him, especially considering he remains under team control through 2021, it appears it may not be completely off the table.

DeGrom's next scheduled start arrives Saturday against the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field, when he will attempt to separate himself from the four-way tie atop the leaderboard.
