A person familiar with the decision says the Browns are releasing quarterback Robert Griffin III after one injury-marred season. Griffin is being let go one day before he would have been due a $750,000 roster bonus, said the person who spoke Friday, March 10, 2017, to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team has not announced the move. Free agent quarterback Robert Griffin III will work out for the Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Schefter added that the former Washington and Cleveland Browns quarterback has been working out in Florida with his quarterbacks coach from last season, Pep Hamilton.

Griffin, 27, appeared in just five games for the Browns last season, throwing for 886 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 59.2 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 190 yards and another two scores.

He missed the majority of the season due to a shoulder injury.

And this offseason, there hasn't been much interest in his services, per Schefter:

That may be changing, however. Along with Griffin's scheduled workout with the Chargers, B/R's Mike Freeman reported the following on July 19:

"Several teams told me Griffin is starting to draw some mild interest—emphasis on mild. Still, there are teams who want to see what he has left. The hesitancy with Griffin, though, is obvious: He's as frail as a snowman in July. But all it takes is one team, and there appears to be more than that willing to give him a look, maybe in camp."

And Hamilton spoke highly of Griffin, per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com:

In LA, Griffin would fight for a backup spot behind Philip Rivers. Kellen Clemens is currently second on the depth chart behind Rivers.
