The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Monday that they agreed to terms on a six-year, $24.6 million contract extension with defenseman Brian Dumoulin.

Dumoulin will earn $4.1 million per season after helping the Pens win consecutive Stanley Cups in 2015-16 and 2016-17.

Dumoulin was a restricted free agent, but the new deal will keep him under contract through the 2022-23 campaign.

The 25-year-old blueliner is set to enter his third full season as part of Pittsburgh's defense corps.

In 2016-17, he appeared in 70 regular-season games, registering one goal and 14 assists for 15 points, as well as an even plus-minus rating.

Dumoulin also put up one goal and five assists in 25 playoff games en route to the Penguins defeating the Nashville Predators in six games in the Stanley Cup Final.

The former second-round draft pick of the Carolina Hurricanes elevated his level of play during the postseason, as he led the Pens in average ice time at 21:59 per game.

Dumoulin was the latest of Pittsburgh's big RFA chips to fall, as the team signeddefenseman Justin Schultz to a three-year deal earlier in the month.
