Ezekiel Elliott NFL Investigation Reportedly Near Conclusion

Tim DanielsJul 21, 2017

The NFL recently shared details from its year-long investigation into off-field events regarding Ezekiel Elliott with the Dallas Cowboys running back, his representatives and the NFL Players Association.

Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL.com reported the update Friday and noted the entire probe is "nearing completion." It's still unclear what type of discipline, if any, Elliott may face with the 2017 season set to get underway in early September.

An announcement is not expected Friday or during the weekend, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The league has looked into multiple incidents involving the running back, including two allegations of abuse by a former girlfriend, a March video where he was seen exposing a woman's breast and an assault allegation at a Dallas bar this past weekend, per NFL.com.

Its investigation began last July after a woman contacted police to file a domestic-violence report.

Earl Rinehart of the Columbus Dispatch reported Tiffany Thompson told police Elliott assaulted her over a period of days. Elliott denied the claims and was never charged in the case.

Schefter previously noted the Cowboys' playmaker was bracing for a "short suspension" from the NFL once the investigation was complete.

That report came prior to the Dallas bar allegation, though Rebecca Lopez of WFAA noted police would likely suspend the most recent case since they couldn't contact the victim or get cooperation from witnesses.

Elliott led the NFL with 1,631 rushing yards last season—318 more than any other player—and scored 15 touchdowns during a standout rookie campaign.

The Cowboys opened training camp this week. Veterans are due to report Saturday.
