Given the high-profile nature of Simpson's parole hearing, the sports world had a lot to say about the board's decision to grant his request for release from Lovelock Correctional Center after serving nearly nine years of a maximum 33-year sentence:

ESPN's Darren Rovell noted Simpson was still being paid his pension by the NFL while in prison:

The hearing portion lasted more than one hour, with Simpson answering questions from the parole board and detailing his experiences in prison.

When Simpson returned to the room to hear the board's decision, there was an apparent hot-mic situation with him that was caught on camera:

After a brief deliberation period, the four-panel board voted unanimously to release Simpson. He was originally convicted in 2008 after being arrested in Las Vegas on charges of felony armed robbery and kidnapping when he and a group of men broke into a hotel room to steal memorabilia, including items that allegedly had some connection to Simpson.
