O.J. Simpson's Driver's Licenses Reportedly Will Be Put Up for Auction

Tim DanielsJul 20, 2017

A driver's license issued to former NFL running back O.J. Simpson during the murder trial of ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman will be sold at auction.

On Thursday, TMZ Sports reported two California licenses given to Simpson, including one while he was in L.A. County Jail in 1995 before being acquitted of the murder charges following the high-profile trial, are expected to go for an estimated $6,500 during the SCP Auctions sale.

A representative for the auction company told TMZ Sports the items were acquired from an old bodyguard who worked for the pro football and college football Hall of Famer. They will be available for bidding from Oct. 4 through Oct. 21.

News of the auction comes on the same day Simpson will face a Nevada parole board to seek an early release from his prison sentence for a 2007 conviction for kidnapping and armed robbery.

Eric Levenson and Susannah Cullinane of CNN noted the 70-year-old California native has served nine years of a maximum 33-year term stemming from an incident at a Las Vegas hotel. If granted parole, he could be released by October.

"Simpson has stayed out of trouble there," Nevada Department of Corrections spokesperson Brooke Keast said. "We haven't heard much from him."

His story has remained a popular focus of documentaries more than two decades after the not guilty verdict, including the critically acclaimed O.J.: Made in America. It was also featured in The People v. O.J. Simpson, a 10-episode crime drama on FX.

Simpson rose to prominence during a standout collegiate career at USC before getting taken by the Buffalo Bills with the first overall pick in the 1969 NFL draft. His playing career ended in 1979, but he stayed in the spotlight as an actor and product endorser.
