Blazers' Twitter Account Teases Lonzo Ball, Lakers During Summer League Final
The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Portland Trail Blazers, 110-98, on Monday night to take home the 2017 Summer League championship. Throughout the evening, Portland had some lighthearted fun at one of its opponent's expense.
Playing off ballyhooed rookie Lonzo Ball—who missed the final with a calf injury but still earned summer league MVP honors—sampling different sneakers throughout the Las Vegas showcase, the Blazers gave an update on Jake Layman's footwear.
The 23-year-old hasn't received the same national publicity as Ball after averaging 2.2 points per game last season, but he impressed in Vegas with 13.8 points per contest.
Caleb "Biggie" Swanigan also made his mark by averaging 16.1 points and 10.6 rebounds over eight games. Portland crafted a new label for this year's No. 26 pick that definitely doesn't have anything to do with Los Angeles' first-round choice.
Players who have actually played in NBA games weren't spared from Portland's ire.
Although the Blazers weren't as jovial after the loss, they worked their way to congratulating the Lakers.
