Marco Verratti Offer from Barcelona to Reportedly Include €65M and Andre Gomes

Gill ClarkJul 17, 2017

Barcelona are reportedly ready to offer Paris Saint-Germain €65 million plus Andre Gomes for Italian midfielder Marco Verratti, according to Mundo Deportivo (via Calciomercato.com).

Unai Emery's side do not want to let their influential midfielder leave, but it is noted Barca could also be tempted to include Ivan Rakitic, a player PSG coach Unai Emery knows well from their time together at Sevilla, in any possible deal.

Gomes only joined Barcelona last summer in a deal worth €35 million, plus a potential €20 million more depending on performances. The club also confirmed the deal included incentives of up to €15 million should he win "multiple Ballon d'Or awards."

However, the midfielder has failed to live up to his contractual billing, managing just three goals and one assist in 30 La Liga appearances, per WhoScored.com.

It is, therefore, little surprise to see that Barca are willing to part company with the Portugal international; however, that may still not be enough to tempt PSG, as pointed out by Gianluca Di Marzio's David Amoyal:

Per the report, Barcelona could also use Rakitic as part of the deal, and he recently told the Sportsman's Club (h/t Marcahe would "love to" work with Emery again; the pair won the UEFA Europa League together in 2014.

However, the Croatian was far more influential at Barcelona than Gomes last season, and the Catalan giants may not want to allow the highest-scoring central midfielder in La Liga to leave:

While Verratti appears to be Barcelona's top target, convincing PSG to part with one of their key assets will not be easy. Including Gomes as a ready-made replacement may help to sweeten the deal, and after an indifferent first season, Barca could be tempted to let him leave.
