Sergio Aguero Transfer Reportedly Interests Chelsea After Missing Romelu Lukaku

Rory MarsdenJul 17, 2017

Chelsea reportedly have a "serious and strong interest" in signing Argentinian striker Sergio Aguero from Premier League rivals Manchester City.

The Blues recently missed out on re-signing Romelu Lukaku from Everton and, according to Sky Sports News HQ, they have now shifted their focus to Aguero as they look to find a new frontman:

However, per Kaveh Solhekol of Sky Sports News HQ, City are adamant the 29-year-old is not for sale.

It is hardly surprising the Sky Blues are reportedly not open to selling Aguero, especially not to a direct rival, as he is one of the best strikers in Europe.

Per WhoScored.com, only Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane has been more prolific in the English top flight over the last three seasons:

It is likely Aguero will face more competition for his spot in 2016-17, as Gabriel Jesus should be back to full fitness, and the young Brazilian was picked ahead of the former Atletico Madrid man upon his arrival at the Etihad Stadium back in January.

As a result, rumours circulated towards the end of the campaign that Aguero may want out of City, but manager Pep Guardiola confirmed he would remain at the club, perย Matt Dickinsonย inย Theย Times.

Chelsea have the funds to put in a tempting bid to City for Aguero and to offer the striker attractive terms, while they may feel their status as Premier League champions could prove valuable in negotiations.

But it seems most likely City will not consider a bid from the west London outfit for one of their most consistently valuable players.ย
