Wimbledon 2017: Women's Final Winner, Score and Twitter Reaction
Garbine Muguruza defeated Venus Williams in the women's singles final of Wimbledon 2017, claiming the championship at the All England Club on Saturday.
The Spanish star was aggressive throughout and dominated the encounter as Williams faded in the second set.
Muguruza prevailed 7-5, 6-0 as she turned on the style towards the end of the battle.
Wimbledon shared the moment when the new champion won the famous trophy:
Williams settled in the early stages, matching her opponent's power in the opening exchanges.
The two women stayed in touch with one another as the first set reached 5-5, but Muguruza turned the screw at the correct moment and stole a break of serve.
The advantage was enough to give the eventual champion the set, 7-5, and the Caracas, Venezuela-born talent never looked back.
Williams was fatigued sooner than expected, and Muguruza's youth shone through as she put her foot down on the accelerator.

The veteran simply couldn't live with the Spaniard's power, and she dropped her serve three times in succession.
Muguruza cantered to victory as she claimed the second set without dropping a game, winning 6-0.
Tennis writer Tumaini Carayol highlighted the champion's amazing grand slam record:
It was a sad end to the competition for Williams, but she was outclassed as she dug deep for inspiration.
Williams made five double faults as she was beaten, and her serve was unreliable through the match.
Her experience was not enough to give her time to fight back, and her opponent was superior on Centre Court.
Williams congratulated the winner after the match, per Wimbledon:
Tennis writer Ben Rothenberg sympathised with Williams:
Muguruza is now back on course to reclaim her place near the top of the world rankings after suffering a year of inconsistency.
The champion was only seeded No. 14 at the championship, but her form has exploded during the grass-court season.
The Spaniard was previously tipped to dominate the women's game, and her recent performances suggest she is back to her powerful best.
