Fresh David De Gea Bid from Real Madrid 'Expected' by Manchester United

Tom SunderlandJul 13, 2017

Manchester United are anticipating a fresh bid from Real Madrid for star goalkeeper David De Gea this summer after Los Blancos were denied in their pursuits of Gianluigi Donnarumma and Thibaut Courtois.

That's according to Rob Dawson of ESPN FC, who reported on Friday that the Red Devils expect Real to revive their longstanding interest in De Gea, who came close to moving back to Madrid in the summer of 2015.

Dawson added former Atletico Madrid stopper De Gea "would still like to move to Real Madrid at some stage during his career," but United and manager Jose Mourinho are determined to keep hold of their No. 1.

It's believed Los Blancos want to replace current 'keeper Keylor Navas after faith in his ability dropped at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, but Donnarumma has signed a new deal at AC Milan, and Chelsea refuse to sell Courtois.

The BBC's Neil Henderson also provided a look at The Sun's Friday back page, which read that the La Liga and European champions will offer a sizeable £50 million fee in order to prise the Spain international away from Old Trafford:

De Gea's contract runs until the summer of 2019 and has the option of a one-year extension, meaning his future is safe in Manchester provided no discontent arises from the player's camp.

Much focus has been devoted to United's attack after Wayne Rooney moved back to Everton and Romelu Lukaku joined the Reds in a £75 million deal, but football writer Nooruddean Choudry has still warned of the impact a De Gea sale could have:

The Spaniard may not be a goalscorer, but many might argue De Gea is deserving of a price tag to rival that of Lukaku or world-record signing Paul Pogba, who returned to the club for £89.3 million last summer.

De Gea kept 16 clean sheets in 45 total appearances last season and was once again among United's most consistent star performers as he aided their return to the UEFA Champions League.

And Mourinho will be desperate to keep his No. 1 around for that European comeback as he seeks to build the next line of superstars at Old Trafford, of which six-year United veteran De Gea will play a major role.

The former Atleti man arrived from La Liga in 2011 and has developed into one of the most talented shot-stoppers in the world, and he now holds his place as one of the most important figures at the club, per Squawka:

What's more, if the goalkeeper's social media activity is anything to go by, it suggests Real stand a slim chance of tempting him away from his current setting this summer:

It's clear Real wish to replace Navas with more prestige between the posts, and while De Gea may tick all the boxes, United aren't likely to be willing negotiators this summer.
