Lonzo Ball Drops 2nd Triple-Double in Lakers vs. Cavaliers Summer League Game

Joseph ZuckerJul 13, 2017

The Los Angeles Lakers advanced to the quarterfinals of the Las Vegas Summer League championship tournament as Lonzo Ball posted his second triple-double in a 94-83 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Ball finished with 16 points on 6-of-20 shooting while grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out 12 assists. Sports Illustrated's Ben Golliver put Ball's performance in perspective:

After the game, Lakers summer-league coach Jud Buechler credited much of Ball's success to his individual skill, per Spectrum SportsNet's Mike Trudell:

Ball's decision to wear a pair of Kobe A.D. shoes during Los Angeles' victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday caused a bit of a stir on social media. After the game, Ball said he was looking to create a "Mamba mentality," per the Orange County Register.

While Ball ditched the Kobes on Thursday, he still avoided his signature Big Baller Brand ZO2 sneakers. Instead, opted for James Harden's signature Adidas shoe:

The Washington Post's Tim Bontemps thought the optics didn't help Big Baller Brand:

Ball's choice of footwear will be of little concern to Lakers fans as long as the rookie point guard continues playing like he did in the past two games.

Summer-league results should always be taken with a grain of salt, but Ball appears to be forging a strong partnership with fellow first-round pick Kyle Kuzma, who scored a team-high 20 points. SB Nation's Ricky O'Donnell thought the two complemented one another on the floor:

NBA on ESPN shared a replay of an outlet pass ahead to Kuzma that resulted in a layup in the third quarter:

Ball didn't make a great impression in his first summer-league game. He shot 2-of-15, including 1-of-11 from three-point range in a 96-93 defeat to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Since then, he had a triple-double in the Lakers' 86-81 defeat to the Boston Celtics and then a double-double that included a game-high 36 points in Los Angeles' 103-102 win over the 76ers, which was followed up by another triple-double Thursday.

Ball will have an opportunity to add to his growing summer-league legacy on Saturday when the Lakers play the Brooklyn Nets.
