Dak Prescott Guarantees Dallas Cowboys Will Win NFC East

Joseph ZuckerJul 13, 2017

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott called his shot on the red carpet at the 2017 ESPY Awards on Wednesday night, declaring the team will repeat as division champions.

"We're the Cowboys," Prescott said, per the Dallas Morning News' Jon Machota. "We're gonna win the NFC East."

A team hasn't successfully defended its NFC East crown since the Philadelphia Eagles in 2004, when they capped off four straight years as the division winners.

The Cowboys are the favorites to take the NFC East in 2017, boasting 23-20 odds on OddsShark. Dallas also has the best odds (4-1) of taking the NFC title.

The core of the Cowboys team that went 13-3 a year ago returns, and Dallas did well to address some of its roster holes in the 2017 NFL draft by selecting defensive lineman Taco Charlton in the first round and cornerbacks Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis with its next two picks.

Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott should be even better in their second years as well. Prescott threw for 3,667 yards, 23 touchdowns and four interceptions, while Elliott had a league-high 1,631 yards and finished sixth in yards per carry (5.1).

Assuming the Cowboys' key players can stay healthy, they'll be more than capable of going back-to-back in the NFC East.
