Reddit Users Report Jose Quintana Rumors Before White Sox Trade Him to Cubs

The Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs stunned most MLB onlookers by completing a crosstown blockbuster trade Thursday.

More than two weeks before the trade deadline, the White Sox sent pitcher Jose Quintana to the Cubs for a package of four minor leaguers led by Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Cease. The White Sox announced the news on Twitter:

Without any national rumors linking the two Chicago squads as probable trade partners, the deal caught many insiders—including Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal—off guard:

But not everyone was blindsided by the news. Late Tuesday night, a Redditor (warning: links contains NSFW language) with a username befitting a 12-year-old wrote [sic], "I heard from a friend who's brothers friend works for the cubs" that Quintana is on the move for four Cubs players. 

This person's source, who also goes by an immature name, clarified that the Cubs were dealing four prospects and the transaction would be finalized after they meet with doctors.

They were right, causing CSN Chicago to print a bizarre correction in a piece about both sides keeping the trade quiet.

Let's label this an anomaly rather than seeking more deadline scoops from the least appropriate usernames on Reddit.
