Clippers Rumors: LA Reportedly Worked Out Tiago Splitter, Martell Webster

Timothy RappJul 13, 2017

The Los Angeles Clippers have worked out free-agent center Tiago Splitter and wing Martell Webster, according to Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times, although "no deal is imminent."

As Turner noted, the Clippers are seeking a backup center to DeAndre Jordan and a backup small forward behind new addition Danilo Gallinari.

Splitter, 32, appeared in just eight games last season for the Philadelphia 76ers, averaging 4.9 points and 2.8 rebounds in 9.5 minutes per contest. Webster, 30, hasn't appeared in an NBA game since the 2014-15 season.

Both would likely be deep options off the bench, with the Clippers already possessing Wesley Johnson and Montrezl Harrell at small forward and center, respectively. But they would help round out a potentially solid bench unit that likely will include Lou Williams, DeAndre Liggins, Milos Teodosic and Sam Dekker as well.

It's been a summer of transition for the Clippers, with Chris Paul now in Houston and players like Gallinari, Williams, Harrell, Teodosic and Patrick Beverley heading to Los Angeles. While Splitter and Webster wouldn't be major upgrades for the team, they would provide the Clippers solid veteran depth as they attempt to return to the postseason.
