Manchester United Transfer News: Ivan Perisic Rumours and 'Huge' Eric Dier Bid
Manchester United are reportedly just "a few million short" of meeting Inter Milan's valuation of winger Ivan Perisic, who is expected to complete the move in the coming days. Elsewhere, the Red Devils are said to be eyeing a substantial Eric Dier bid.
The Independent's Miguel Delaney wrote the Nerazzurri are seeking £50 million for Perisic's signature, adding that sources close to negotiations expect a move to be completed for between £45 million and £50 million "in the next week."
That will strike as pleasing news for United fans, who are still revelling in the £75 million capture of Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, with further attacking reinforcements seemingly on the way.
Perisic moved to the San Siro from Wolfsburg in 2015 and has cultivated a reputation as a well-balanced wide man who contributes both in goals and with creativity, not to mention doing his bit in defence, per Squawka:
That hard-working nature could be one trait that's tilted United manager Jose Mourinho's attention toward the Croatia international, who has also already agreed personal terms with the Premier League powerhouse, per Delaney.
Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News added further fuel to the speculation fire on Sunday, when Perisic posted an ambiguous travelling post, the kind favoured by some stars on the move during the transfer window:
Meanwhile, the Red Devils are reportedly preparing a £60 million offer to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dier, having already attempted a £40 million bid and a double-your-money deal, per the Mirror's James Nursey.
That's despite the club being told by Tottenham that the holding midfielder—who can also play at centre-back—is not for sale at any price. Jamie Jackson of the Guardian recently provided an update on one of this summer's developing Premier League rumours:
Dier's Tottenham side finished second to Premier League winners Chelsea last season, while United ended the campaign in sixth, and the England international started in all but two of his 48 appearances under manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Therefore, one would think either Dier or Spurs would have to push for the deal in order for him to move this summer, and Adam McKola of FullTime Devils recently made his thoughts known on whether Dier was worth the cost:
The 23-year-old is a step away from the specialists that boss Mourinho has thus far sought at Old Trafford, with Dier at times struggling to find his true home either in midfield or in central defence.
Tottenham could soon find their resolve tested in just how badly they wish to hang onto Dier's services, however, as Mourinho makes a renewed push to sign a player he clearly thinks a lot of.
