Yankees Rumors: New York Pursuing Trade for Marlins 1B Justin Bour
The New York Yankees are trying to find an upgrade at first base, but they might have a tough time landing their latest target.
According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the team is pursuing a potential trade for first baseman Justin Bour. Unfortunately, Jackson added the Miami Marlinsย "are not going to give away a player whoโs productive, cheap and under team control through 2020."
Bour is in the midst of a breakout season with 19 home runs and 56 RBI to go with a .909 OPS. He is set to compete with teammate Giancarlo Stanton in the Home Run Derby on Monday in front of his home fans at Marlins Park.

While he is 29 years old, the left-handed batter got a late start to his career and remains under team control for another three years. He won't even reach arbitration until after this year.
This could keep the Marlins from making any sort of deal for Bour, who could be a key piece for the future, even with the squad more than 10 games out of first place.
With that said, the Yankees should be desperate to find someone who can play first base before the trade deadline. Even with one of the best offenses in baseball, the team ranks dead last in the majors with a .201 batting average from first basemen, perย ESPN.
Chris Carter was designated for assignment, while Greg Bird and Tyler Austin remain on the disabled list.
Jon Heymanย of FanRag Sports noted New York Mets slugger Lucas Duda is a possibility, but the team could use more options before making a deal.ย
