MLB Celebrity Softball Game 2017: Rosters, Time and TV Schedule
The Celebrity Softball Game may not be the main dish during Major League Baseball's smorgasbord on All-Star Weekend, but it has become an enjoyable appetizer that precedes the annual All-Star Game.
The softball game will be played Sunday night, shortly after the All-Star Futures Game at Marlins Park. The softball game should start around 8 p.m. ET, but a specific start time won't be known until the Futures Game is over. The game will be televised Monday night on ESPN after the Home Run Derby.
The softball game consists of ex-players, actors and musicians, who put their athletic skills on display on the softball field.
Not surprisingly, this year's game will have a Miami flavor as four of the ex-major leaguers have Miami connections. Andre Dawson, Ivan Rodriguez, Al Leiter and Benito Santiago are all playing, and so are Miami artists Dascha Polanco, Jencarlos Canela and William Levy.
Polanco was raised in Miami and is a star on the hit show Orange is the New Black.
Canela is a Miami-based actor, singer and songwriter, while Levy is an actor from Miami.
Other participants include ESPN baseball analyst Jessica Mendoza, who won an Olympic gold medal as a softball player. Jennie Finch plays in this game most years, and the softball gold medalist will show off her skills once again in Miami.
Actor Miles Teller will play, as will Justin Hartley of the NBC hit show This Is Us.
Other former major leaguers who will play in addition to the Miami stars include Fred Lynn, Bernie Williams, Rickey Henderson and Tim Raines.
Finch has been a mainstay in the celebrity softball game for years. She pitched a complete game while wearing a National League uniform in 2013.
She is likely to be a National Leaguer again this year, and Mendoza is likely to be on the American League side.
Actor Jamie Foxx starred while playing on the American League side last year, and he will play again this year.
