
Toni Duggan Completes Barcelona Transfer from Manchester City Women
England international Toni Duggan's move to Barcelona from Manchester City Women was confirmed on Thursday, with the striker penning a two-year deal at the Spanish club.
City announced Duggan's departure from the club on their official website, with the 25-year-old having joined the Sky Blues from Everton in 2013.
ITV Newsย provided comments from Duggan in which she outlined her reasons for making the switch to Barca:
"FC Barcelona are known all over the world for playing attractive football and I naturally wanted to be part of that. I think my style of play will suit the team and Iโm honoured to be part of the club.
"My new coach Fran Sanchez has told me that their ambition is to win the Womenโs Champions League and the club have made that very clear with their signings over the years. I want to help my team mates to achieve that ambition.
"Iโve had a lot of success in England and Iโve really enjoyed my time with Manchester City but I wanted to challenge myself even further by playing abroad. Barcelona are one of the worldโs biggest clubs and Iโve totally bought into their philosophy. Iโm also looking forward to learning Spanish and living in the city."
Perย BBC Sport, she is the first English player to join Barcelona since Gary Lineker in 1986.
During her time with City, Duggan helped them win their firstย Women's Super League One title in 2016 and the 2016-17 Women's FA Cup.
Per City, she departs the club having netted 31 goals in 74 appearances.ย
