Markus Wheaton out Indefinitely After Appendectomy Surgery

Alec NathanJul 30, 2017

Chicago Bears wide receiver Markus Wheaton will be out of practice indefinitely after undergoing an appendectomy Sunday, the Chicago Tribune's Dan Wiederer reported.

Following his injury-riddled 2016 season, Wheaton latched on with the Bears—who shelled out $6 million guaranteed to add the speedster to their work-in-progress receiving corps. He appeared in all of three games with the Pittsburgh Steelers last season because of nagging shoulder woes, catching four passes for 51 yards and a touchdown.

While Wheaton's appendectomy shouldn't force him out for any regular-season games, he'll miss chances to get valuable repetitions with the offense in practice.

Wheaton will also have plenty of competition for playing time since the Bears signed Rueben Randle and Victor Cruz in the offseason as well.
