3 Potential Upset Picks For College Football Week 7

BetVega.com Sports Betting NewsOct 14, 2009

Can the Texas Longhorns keep their perfect season intact on Saturday? If the Longhorns can handle their biggest rival this week, Texas could be on their way to the BCS title game in January. However, their championship hopes could be derailed by the resurgent Oklahoma Sooners.

1.) Oklahoma over Texas (Live Odds)

As usual, there is plenty at stake for Saturday’s “Red River Shootout” in Dallas between 3rd-ranked Texas and 20th-ranked Oklahoma. While the Sooners are out of the BCS championship race after a pair of non-conference defeats, the club can still capture another Big 12 championship. The return of reigning Heisman winner Sam Bradford has boosted the confidence of Oklahoma heading into this week’s showdown. Bradford passed for nearly 400 yards in last week’s victory over Baylor. A stout defense (third in the nation in scoring defense) will provide a stern test for Colt McCoy and the Texas offense. While Texas is favored by a field goal in the contest, the Sooners have had their number more often than not in this decade. Texas is just 3-6 against the Sooners in their last nine meetings. Oklahoma’s record in the series is quite impressive against a Texas squad that has lost a grand total of just 18 games over the entire decade.

2.) Notre Dame over USC (Live Odds)

The 25th-ranked Irish still aren’t getting much respect heading into Saturday’s matchup in South Bend against the 6th-ranked Trojans. USC is an 11.5-point favorite in the contest. Notre Dame could finally be ready to compete with the Trojans after being over-matched more often than not during their current seven-game losing skid to USC. Five of the seven defeats have been by more than 30 points and the Irish have been held to a total of just three points in their last two meetings with USC. Southern California native Jimmy Clausen is a more confident quarterback heading into this year’s matchup against the Trojans. The Notre Dame signal-caller leads the nation in quarterback rating and has fired 12 touchdown passes for the Irish. While USC’s defense will provide a stern test for Notre Dame, the Trojans offense has only averaged 22 points per game since their season opener.

3.) Wisconsin over Iowa (Live Odds)

The 11th-ranked Hawkeyes will put their unbeaten mark on the line in Madison against the Badgers on Saturday. Wisconsin will be looking to rebound after suffering their first defeat of the season last week at Ohio State. The Badgers outgained the Buckeyes by nearly 200 yards in the setback. Wisconsin will enter the contest with the top rushing offense in the Big 10. The defense is a solid 43rd in the country in total defense. Iowa’s good fortune could finally run out this week. Three of their six victories have been by three points or less. The Hawkeyes are a mediocre 75th in the nation in scoring offense. With a 7-5 record against Iowa in their last 12 meetings, the Badgers will be fired up to pull the upset for the home faithful in a critical conference battle.
