Heisman Trophy Odds Watch For Week 7
Last week, Tim Tebow and his Florida Gators secured a showcase victory at LSU. Now, Texas quarterbackColt McCoy will get the spotlight in Saturday’s “Red River Shootout” against Oklahoma.
Tim Tebow – Florida Gators – Latest Heisman Odds
After a week of speculation, Tebow was cleared to play for Florida’s showdown at LSU following his concussion two weeks ago. Florida’s 13-3 win over the Tigers will likely neither help nor hurt Tebow at this point of the season. The victory was a major step towards an undefeated regular season for the Gators. So, the success of the team is a boost for Tebow. However, Florida’s star quarterback was average in the win. He passed for 134 yards while being held to just 38 rushing yards on 17 attempts against an elite opponent on the road. For the season, Tebow is third in the nation in quarterback rating. He has completed over 65% of his pass attempts for the Gators in 2009. Without a current Top 20 team on the remaining schedule, Tebow should be able to roll up some impressive numbers in the second half of the season.
Colt McCoy – Texas Longhorns – Latest Heisman Odds
McCoy’s Heisman hopes could be decided on Saturday in Dallas when 3rd-ranked Texas faces 20th-ranked Oklahoma. The Texas offense appeared to be looking ahead in last week’s victory over Colorado. While the special teams and defense accounted for three touchdowns, the Longhorns offense scored only a pair of touchdowns in a 38-14 win. McCoy completed 32-of-39 passes but fired only one touchdown pass in the victory. For the season, McCoy has completed over 73% of his pass attempts. In his career against the Sooners, McCoy and the Longhorns have posted a 2-1 record. He has fired five TD passes with only one interception in 79 pass attempts against Oklahoma.
Toby Gerhart – Stanford Cardinal – Latest Heisman Odds
The senior running back continues to lead the nation in rushing with 746 yards. While Stanford fell to Oregon State last week, Gerhart produced another solid performance with 96 yards on 20 carries. He also rushed for a pair of touchdowns in the defeat. Gerhart broke onto the scene last year with 1,136 yards and 15 touchdowns for Stanford. This week, Stanford will hit the road again for a matchup against the Arizona Wildcats.
Jimmy Clausen – Notre Dame Fighting Irish – Latest Heisman Odds
The junior signal-caller is getting some Heisman attention for his clutch play in some dramatic Notre Dame victories. Clausen has thrown a key fourth quarter touchdown pass in each of the last three wins for the Irish. Notre Dame came from behind to edge Michigan State and Purdue by a field goal. In their last outing two weeks ago, the Irish rallied to stop Washington in overtime. Clausen leads the nation in passer rating and is averaging over 300 yards through the air per game. He has fired 12 touchdown passes with only a pair of interceptions in 2009. Clausen will have his best chance to impress Heisman voters on Saturday when the 25th-ranked Irish seek to pull an upset over 6th-ranked USC in a nationally televised matchup.
