Knicks Rumors: Dion Waiters a Potential Target for New York
The New York Knicks haven't made noise to this point in free agency, but they appear to be honing in on shooting guard Dion Waiters.
According to a report from ESPN.com's Ramona Shelburne on Tuesday, the Knicks "continue to speak" with Waiters. She added that the Los Angeles Lakers will meet Wednesday to discuss their pursuit of Waiters.
The Sun Sentinel's Ira Winderman also reported Tuesday the Knicks are "very much in play for Waiters."
Waiters was limited to 46 appearances last season with the Miami Heat due to groin and ankle injuries, but he experienced plenty of success when healthy.
In a career-high 30.1 minutes per game, the 25-year-old averaged 15.8 points on 42.4 percent shooting from the field and 39.5 percent shooting from three.
Not surprisingly, Waiters' breakout corresponded with a near-six percent spike in usage rate from the season prior.
If Waiters and the Knicks eventually come to terms on a deal, he projects as a microwave scoring sixth man behind Courtney Lee—who started 74 games at the 2 last season.
It's also fair to wonder if Waiters could entertain a return to the Heat should they strike out in their pursuit of Gordon Hayward since they would have loads of cap space to play with.
