The Turkey international becomes the sixth player to be snapped up by the Serie A outfit since the end of the season. Mateo Musacchio, Ricardo Rodriguez, Franck Kessie, Andre Silva and Fabio Borini have all moved to the San Siro already:
Calhanoglu's capture will be one of the most exciting, though, as the former Leverkusen man is regarded as one of European football's rising stars.
Football journalist Keith Costigan believes Milan have pulled off a coup in getting the 23-year-old:
During his three-year spell with the Bundesliga side, he was regularly the man Bayer looked to in the attacking third.
Calhanoglu is an intelligent footballer, able to do a job behind a striker or in a wide berth. He is adept at finding space, knitting attacking moves together and driving forward into dangerous positions. The former Hamburger SV man is most revered for his dead-ball potency, though.

From wide positions, Calhanoglu so often finds team-mates with fizzing crosses, while he's also as effective as anyone in the game at shooting from distance, as these numbers from OptaPaolo show:
The move will also present the player with some challenges, especially given his previous season was cut short in February because of a breach of contract involving former club Karlsruhe and Turkish team Trabzonspor. Calhanolglu served a four-month ban for that.
At Milan, he will also play senior domestic football outside of Germany for the first time. While Serie A may not be as intense as the Bundesliga, the sharp minds and tactical understanding of defenders can make it tough for attackers to adapt.
Still, Calhanoglu has shown enough talent and the right temperament early in his career to suggest he's ready to star for one of Europe's most glamorous outfits.
