Jayson Tatum, Boston Celtics Agree to Rookie Contract

The Boston Celtics announced Saturday that Jayson Tatum signed his rookie contract with the team.

According to RealGM, Tatum will make a little over $4.7 million in his first season after the Celtics selected him with the third overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft.

Signing Tatum brings a bit of good news to the Celtics after they failed to land Paul George. ESPN.com's Ramona Shelburne reported Friday the Oklahoma City Thunder acquired the star forward from the Indiana Pacers.

According to Turner Sports analyst David Aldridge, Boston declined to make Tatum or Jaylen Brown available to the Pacers, which left them unable to push the George trade over the line.

Tatum averaged 16.8 points and 7.3 rebounds a game in his only season for the Duke Blue Devils. He was also a solid three-point shooter, making 34.2 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc.

Tatum will likely compete with Jaylen Brown, the Celtics' 2016 first-round pick, for playing time at the two forward positions.
