Cavs Rumors: Jose Calderon Reportedly Targeted as Backup PG
In search of more roster depth this offseason, the Cleveland Cavaliers have reportedly focused their attention on point guard Jose Calderon.
The Athletic's Jason Lloyd reported the Cavs' interest in Calderon on Saturday, adding there is mutual interest from Calderon in joining the defending Eastern Conference champions.
As Marc Stein reported for ESPN, the Cavaliers were trying to make a big splash on the trade market for Paul George. But that went out the window when ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reported Friday the Indiana Pacers dealt the All-Star to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Calderon would bring the Cavs depth in the backcourt. Deron Williams, who joined the team in February after clearing waivers, is an unrrestricted free agent.
The 35-year-old Calderon split time last season with the Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta Hawks. He averaged a career-low 3.4 points and 2.1 assists in 41 games, but he has been an excellent three-point shooter with a 40.9 success rate for his career.
