Burns attended the University of Miami (Fla.) prior to getting selected by the Steelers with the No. 25 overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft.
According to Curt Popejoy of USA Today, Burns was pulled over for having an expired license plate before it was discovered that he also had a suspended license and over $1,000 in unpaid traffic tickets.
The 22-year-old defensive back appeared in all 16 games for the Steelers as a rookie, making three starts.
He registered 64 tackles, 13 passes defended and three interceptions in what was a successful debut campaign.
Burns is expected to start for the Steelers in 2017 with Ross Cockrell occupying the other starting cornerback position.
