UNC Football Player Allen Artis Sexual Assault Charges Dropped

The attorney for North Carolina cornerback Allen Artis announced on Thursday sexual assault charges against his client have been dropped.

Per ABC 11 News, attorney Kerry Sutton made the announcement regarding Artis at a press conference. 

"I'm thankful this process is finally over," Artis said at the press conference. "It's been a long time. It's a bit overwhelming right now."

According to the report, district attorney Jim Woodall said the charges were dropped after the case had been "resolved to the satisfaction of both parties."

Artis was accused of sexual assault and battery against a female in February 2016 and he turned himself into police in September after a misdemeanor warrant was issued for his arrest.

He was suspended from the Tar Heels football team as a result of the allegations. 

In April, the University of North Carolina announced Artis did not violate any school policy following an administrative review of the case. 

Artis said during Thursday's news conference that he hasn't decided if he will continue his football career, noting he was "keeping his options open."
