Braun Strowman struck a major blow in his long-running feud with Roman Reigns on Sunday night, as he beat The Big Dog in an Ambulance match at the Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view.
Reigns looked to end the match by spearing Strowman into the back of the ambulance. Strowman moved, however, and Reigns leapt into the back. Strowman shut the doors to win the match.
The two weren't finished, though, as Reigns opened the doors from the inside and speared Strowman from the back of the ambulance. He then placed Strowman into the ambulance and drove into the parking garage of American Airlines Center.
From there, he backed the ambulance into a semi-truck with Strowman inside. WWE showed Jamie Noble and Raw general manager Kurt Angle attempting to extract Strowman from the ambulance:
SB Nation's Cageside Seats didn't think the situation painted Reigns in a good light:
Bleacher Report's Jeremy Botter also thought Reigns' actions weren't befitting one of WWE's top babyfaces:
After a months-long rivalry couldn't be settled through conventional means, Strowman challenged Reigns to an Ambulance match on Raw.
The ambulance stipulation was significant since it came into play following their match at Payback in April in addition to Strowman tipping over an ambulance while Reigns was inside on an episode of Raw.
The Monster Among Men defeated Reigns in the Payback bout, but he wasn't satisfied with the win, as he attempted to destroy him during the aftermath as well.
Reigns was able to dodge Strowman and send him crashing into an ambulance door, which resulted in the massive Superstar landing on the injured list with an elbow injury.
After missing a month of action, Strowman returned on Raw and distracted Reigns during a match with Samoa Joe by arriving to the arena in the back of an ambulance. Reigns went on to lose the bout, and Strowman laid him out with a chokeslam before laying down the Ambulance match challenge.
Reigns accepted the following week and made it clear that he intended to get revenge on Strowman for everything he had done to him, according to WWE's official Twitter account:
Strowman outsmarted Reigns on that same night by emerging from the driver's door of an ambulance rather than the back and proceeding to beat down the former WWE champion.
As seen in the following GIF, Strowman treated Reigns like a rag doll and managed to essentially javelin him into the side of the ambulance:
Although Reigns faced The Undertaker at WrestleMania, Strowman has been his toughest opponent over the past several months, as they have battled on many occasions and faced off in multiple matches.
None of their encounters were as brutal as Sunday's Ambulance match, though, since there were no rules and nothing stopping the Superstars from inflicting as much pain as possible.
Entering Great Balls of Fire, Reigns and Strowman were on equal footing, as Reigns was victorious in a match at Fastlane, while Strowman evened the odds with a win at Payback.
That conceivably made the Ambulance match the blowoff to their lengthy feud, which ensured that the stakes were high.
The loss could prove to be a crushing blow to Reigns, as he previously challenged the winner of the match between Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe to a clash at SummerSlam for the Universal Championship.
Reigns is now lacking momentum after falling to Strowman, and although he has generally been built as the face of WWE, he doesn't currently appear to be positioned for another world title run.
