WWE SmackDown: Potential Spoilers, Rumors, News and Preview for June 27

Ryan DilbertJun 27, 2017

Tuesday's WWE SmackDown should be renamed the Money in the Bank Redux.

Rematches, a title bout and the second women's Money in the Bank ladder match in WWE history make the show feel like a mini pay-per-view of sorts. Naomi will defend her SmackDown Women's Championship. The Hype Bros will battle for the No. 1 contender's spot in the tag team division. And the women's division will get a do-over.

Thanks to James Ellsworth's interference in the original women's Money in the Bank bout, Carmella had to give up her contract-filled briefcase. SmackDown general manager Daniel Bryan plucked the prize from her hand and booked a rematch for Tuesday night.

Fans in San Diego who thought they were buying tickets to a regular, old SmackDown are set to see the chaos and human car crashes that come with a Money in the Bank ladder match. They will see history unfold, too, as one woman walks out with the briefcase Carmella held so briefly.

What else can fans expect to see? Will a certain Bulgarian bruiser make his return?

News updates and the SmackDown preview on WWE.com provide answers before Tuesday's show airs at 8 p.m. ET on USA Network.

News, Potential Spoilers

There's still a chance that SmackDown could nab Shelton Benjamin.

The former intercontinental champ was supposed to join the brand last year but pulled out because he needed shoulder surgery. Benjamin is now healthy again and still a free agent.

Pro Wrestling Sheet's Ryan Satin reported that Benjamin and WWE were in discussions about him potentially signing with the company.

Rusev may finally emerge on SmackDown after moving to the brand during the Superstar Shake-up in April.

Dave Meltzer noted in Sunday's Figure Four Online daily update: "Rusev returned as advertised in Vancouver last night, doing a three-way with Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens for the U.S. title." That's the first bit of in-ring action The Bulgarian Brute has had since March due to injury.

And if his spot on the card for that event is any indication, Rusev could be in the hunt for the United States Championship upon his return.

SmackDown Streaks

SmackDown life has been kind to Big E and The New Day thus far.

The powerhouse is undefeated since joining the blue brand. Big E has three straight wins to his name including two victories teaming with The New Day and a solo victory over Jimmy Uso last Tuesday, per CageMatch.net

WWE is likely to keep this pattern going as it builds the tag team division around The New Day.

Luke Harper is experiencing the opposite of Big E. The former Wyatt Family member has fallen several times over as he did against Jinder Mahal on the latest SmackDown.

Per CageMatch.net, that marked his third consecutive loss on SmackDown. He has gone 3-10 on TV and PPV in 2017.

Every time it looks like WWE is going to start treating Harper like a contender, Harper gets pushed down the SmackDown hierarchy. The fact that the brand hasn't made him more of a legit threat to its champions is baffling.

Money in the Bank Re-Do

Lana is getting another crack at the SmackDown Women's Championship.

Despite her inexperience and nearly blank resume, The Ravishing Russian will get her second title shot against Naomi this month. She argued that a distraction from Carmella at the Money in the Bank PPV put her at an unfair disadvantage.

Lana again goaded Naomi into putting the title on the line, opening the door for SmackDown to go the unexpected route again and crown the most unlikely of champions.

Sami Zayn and Baron Corbin will go at it, as well. The two rivals have been colliding in tag team matches and backstage altercations. On Tuesday night, they will fight one-on-one once more.

Sami Zayn and Baron Corbin are set to square off again.

Zayn has twice beaten The Lone Wolf in singles competition. Corbin, though, has usually won the war as he's clobbered the former NXT champ after the bell. The winner here will improve their status as title contenders.

The Hype Bros are only one win away from a SmackDown Tag Team Championship opportunity.

Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley had earned the No. 1 contenders spot last December, but Ryder tore his knee up in the process. Bryan wasn't willing to just give them back their position now that Ryder is healed but did say on last week's show they will get a shot at the titles if they beat The Usos in non-title action Tuesday.

Carmella will look to recreate a triumph of her own.

She was only Ms. Money in the Bank for two days before Bryan stripped her of the briefcase. She will now have to battle Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Natalya and Tamina all over again to get back to that spot.

The first time around, WWE shorted the women on time with the Money in the Bank ladder match. The ill-advised decision to have a man essentially win the bout was met with all kinds of disdain. A historic moment fell short as a result.

On Tuesday, WWE will find out if it's really possible to rewrite history.
