Liverpool Transfer News: Fresh Kylian Mbappe Rumours, Latest on Faouzi Ghoulam

Christopher SimpsonJun 23, 2017

Liverpool have reportedly had a €100 million (£87.8 million) bid for Kylian Mbappe rejected by AS Monaco.

According to Jose Felix Diaz of Marca, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp wants the Frenchman "at all costs," but their offer has fallen short of Monaco's valuation and the player himself will only leave for Real Madrid.

La Liga writer Andrew Gaffney relayed further details:

Per Jason Burt of the Sunday Telegraph, Monaco have already turned down an offer of €120 million (£105.3 million) from Los Blancos for the 18-year-old.

Mbappe struck 26 goals in all competitions last season and also provided 14 assists, so it's of little wonder he has attracted the attention of Europe's elite.

Football writer Liam Canning believes in light of the options in front of Mbappe this summer, Liverpool would not be one to seriously consider:

Indeed, even with UEFA Champions League football on the cards next season, the teenager can have his pick of the biggest clubs in Europe—provided they're able to pay for his services—and the likes of Real are a cut above Liverpool.

What's more, after the capture of Mohamed Salah on Thursday, the Reds are well-stocked with attacking talent.

Mbappe would still be a huge addition to the side, but even if Philippe Coutinho were to move back into midfield—as he may well do following the Egyptian's arrivalit would still leave the Frenchman competing with Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino for a place in the front three, meaning one would have to accept a back-up role.

The Reds would be better served pursuing more realistic targets and now focusing on other areas of the pitch, such as at left-back.

According to the Daily Mail's Simon Jones, they're doing just that having enquired about Napoli's Faouzi Ghoulam.

Liverpool have reportedly rejected an £11 million bid from the Partenopei for Alberto Moreno as they value him at £15 million, but a swap deal could be on the cards with the Reds interested in Ghoulam.

The Algeria international contributes much going forward and racked up 10 assists in all competitions last season. Per Squawka Football, his creativity is unrivalled among Serie A's defenders:

Indeed, according to Squawka, he created 57 chances in the league last year, a tally bettered only by Coutinho and Firmino at Anfield.

Football journalist David Amoyal is an admirer of his abilities:

Ghoulam is also a more solid defender than Moreno, who has frequently proved to be a liability at the back at Liverpool.

The 26-year-old has just one year left on his current deal at Napoli, so he should be attainable this summer—all the more so if the Italian club are interested in Moreno.
