Real Madrid Transfer News: Kylian Mbappe Talks, Latest Gareth Bale Rumours

Rory MarsdenJun 22, 2017

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has reportedly told AS Monaco's Kylian Mbappe he will be granted plenty of game time should he move to the Santiago Bernabeu because a "major star" is likely to leave Los Blancos.

According to L'Equipe (via AS), Zidane has spoken to the 18-year-old Mbappe in an attempt to convince him to join Real, with Gareth Bale named as the superstar most likely to make way, potentially moving to Manchester United.

Additionally, Zidane is said to have told Mbappe a move to Real would give him the best chance of becoming a "true star of the world of football in the next two years."

Mbappe has become one of the most sought-after players in Europe following his phenomenal breakout season in 2016-17.

He played a key role for Monaco as they reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League and won Ligue 1, per Squawka:

The France international has been linked with numerous top clubs such as Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal this summer, but Metro's Ewan Roberts noted Real have long been seen as the front-runners to snap him up.

And Zidane's L'Equipe-reported contact with Mbappe has made the switch even more likely, as the youngster's concerns about a potential lack of playing time have been alleviated.

As noted by French football writer Matt Spiro, Zidane's involvement is likely to be persuasive:

So too would Bale's departure, which would reduce the intense competition for places in Real's attack.

Mbappe is most comfortable as a striker but can also operate out wide if needed, and he could thrive alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Isco at the Bernabeu.

Bale has been regularly linked with United in the past, and Miguel Delaney of The Independent recently reported Real would be prepared to negotiate over the Welshman.

Were Bale to depart the Madrid giants, Old Trafford would be one of only a handful of realistic destinations, as Real would likely look to recoup as much as possible of the £85.3 million they paid Tottenham Hotspur to sign him in 2013.
