Jacobs announced his candidacy in April.
"This is a great place to work, live and raise a family," he said, per the Knoxville News Sentinel's Tyler Whetstone. "I want to do my part to make sure it remains a great place and that our future is as bright as ever."
Jacobs isn't the first wrestler to run for public office.
Jesse Ventura was mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, from 1991 to 1995 before being elected governor of the state in 1999 and serving a four-year term. Booker T announced in December he plans to enter the 2019 mayoral race in Houston, Texas. Terrance Gerin, who wrestles as Rhyno, fell short in his 2016 bid to become a Michigan state representative.
Like Jacobs, Gerin enlisted the help of a colleague to bolster his bid, with Kurt Angle endorsing his campaign:
The primary in the Knox County mayoral race is May 1, 2018, with the final election on Aug. 2, 2018.
With the election over a year away, it's unlikely wrestling fans have seen the last of WWE stars stumping for The Big Red Machine before voters head to the polls.
