Manchester City Transfer News: Dani Alves Set to Leave Juventus Amid Rumours

James DudkoJun 21, 2017

Juventus have confirmed they will terminate Dani Alves' contract as the Brazilian right-back continues to be linked with a move to Manchester City this summer.

Juve general director Giuseppe Marotta told TuttoJuve (h/t Ciaran Kelly and Charlotte Duncker of the Manchester Evening News) how Alves will be allowed to move on: "Dani Alves has realised that he wants to experience an alternative experience, we will make a consensual resolution and wish him luck."

Alves only signed a two-year contract with the Bianconeri last summer, but now he's reportedly ready to move to the Premier League.

However, the potential fee in any deal with City is unclear, per Stuart Brennan of the Manchester Evening News: "The Brazil international was expected to join the Blues in a two-year deal for £5 million but no fee was discussed by the Italian club. Alves had requested a release as he wants to play in England, but whether Juve will now ask City for a transfer fee is unclear."

Veteran full-back Alves would be reuniting with former manager Pep Guardiola if he moves to the Etihad Stadium. Guardiola signed Alves for the Blaugrana from Sevilla back in 2008.

Alves became a key cog in two UEFA Champions League-winning Barca teams on Guardiola's watch. The 34-year-old is still an invaluable attacking outlet thanks to his pace and tireless running on the flank, as well as his technique and flair in the final third.

As a forward-thinking defender, Alves perfectly suits Guardiola's progressive and expansive, possession-based game. Even while playing in a more pragmatic setup at Juve, Alves still proved a force in forward areas last season.

The South American chipped in with six goals and as many assists in all competitions, per WhoScored.com. In the process, Alves helped the Old Lady win Serie A, the Coppa Italia and reach the Champions League final.

Alves is still a dynamic full-back going forward.

Alves still has what it takes at the top level, while the chance to work with Guardiola again seems to be too good to pass up for the illustrious defender.

City are reportedly close to completing a deal for Alves, per Jeremy Cross of the Daily Star. Guardiola has room for the veteran after parting ways with right-backs Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta.

Alves will be more of a feature in City's attacking play if Guardiola can complete this deal.
