Cristiano Ronaldo Reportedly Not Wanted by Jose Mourinho at Manchester United
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has opted against a reunion with Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.
That's according to Carlos Carpio of the Madrid-based daily Marca, which reported the Portuguese tactician will instead target Alvaro Morata.
According to the report, Mourinho has a number of reservations regarding a deal for Ronaldo, including his age―he's 32―the proposed transfer fee of €200 million and the fact the two did not get along by the time the Special One left Madrid.
Transfer speculation surrounding the Ballon d'Or holder has mounted since tax fraud allegations came to light earlier this month. Sky Sports' Kaveh Solhekol explained the situation:
A transfer doesn't seem likely, however, as the forward is a crucial player for Los Blancos, and his contract situation makes him close to untouchable. President Florentino Perez told Onda Cero (h/t the Mirror's Joe Mewis) his buyout clause sits at £1 billion.
Ronaldo exit rumours have become a yearly occurrence in the summer, and these accusations mean a move is perhaps more likely, but fans of Real Madrid can still rest easy.
