College World Series 2017: Latest Results and Updated Picks for Tuesday

With the number of outs starting to dwindle and their chances appearing bleaker, Florida State scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning Monday and defeated Cal State Fullerton 6-4 in the College World Series.

After Taylor Walls and Dylan Busby singled and doubled to lead off the inning, the Titans made a pitching change and pulled Jack Pabich. A streak of wildness followed, featuring three consecutive walks before Matt Henderson's infield single drove in the third run of the inning.

The Seminoles had lost Saturday night to LSU, and head coach Mike Martin was pleased with the way his team bounced back.

"What excited me more than anything is for these young men to throw away a tough loss, be ready to go a day and a half later and go out there and play good baseball and get a win over a very good Cal State Fullerton team," Martin said, per Fletcher Keel of WCTV.TV.

The Titans were eliminated from the CWS with the defeat.

Oregon State overpowered LSU 13-1 in a game that saw the Beavers stretch their winning streak to 23 games.

Oregon State is one win away from reaching the championship series at the College World Series. They will face LSU or Florida State Friday, and the Beavers would have to lose on consecutive days in order to be denied a spot in the final round.

KJ Harrison and the Beavers are rolling.

The Beavers blew open a close game in the sixth inning when they scored five runs. That inning featured a grand slam by KJ Harrison, Oregon State's best power hitter.

Oregon State dominated the game from start to finish. "When we're rolling, we have games like this and it's a lot of fun," right fielder Trevor Larnach said, per Mitch Sherman of ESPN.com.

Texas A&M (41-22) will meet TCU (47-17) Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m., while Louisville (53-10) will meet Florida (48-18) at 7 p.m. Both games will be televised by ESPN.

The Aggies and the Horned Frogs both lost their opening games in Omaha, and the loser of this game will get eliminated from the competition.

The Horned Frogs will send pitcher Brian Howard to the mound against Texas A&M. TCU is hoping to get its offense going against Texas A&M—something it could not do in its Sunday 3-0 loss to Florida and pitcher Alex Faedo.

Head coach Jim Schlossnagle said his team is going to have to find a way to get the job done. “We’re going to have to beat a good pitcher,” Schlossnagle said, per Carlos Mendez of the Fort Worth Star Telegram. “So we can’t just let our season end and say, ‘Oh, woe is me, the pitcher was good.’ We’re going to have to beat a good pitcher. But these guys are resilient. They know what they’re up against.”

The Horned Frogs will have to contain the A&M offense, which is led by freshman Braden Shewmake, who is hitting .330 with 11 home runs and 68 runs batted in. Nick Choruby is hitting .326 and has a .447 on-base percentage, while Blake Kopetsky and Cole Bedford are hitting .308 and .302, respectively.

The winner of the Florida-Louisville game will put itself in the same position as Oregon State in the opposite bracket.

That team will find itself just one win away from a spot in the championship round. The Cardinals are a powerful offensive team with a team batting average of .290, and five Cardinals hitters are batting .291 or better.

Drew Ellis leads Louisville with 20 home runs, and two-way star Brendan McKay follows with 17 blasts.

The Gators will try to counter that attack by sending Brady Singer to the mound. He's a hard-throwing sophomore who features a 97 miles per hour fastball and a 1.94 earned run average.

Kade McClure or Nick Bennett will have the starting assignment for Louisville.
