Tiger Woods Says He Is Receiving Help to 'Manage' His Medications

Rob GoldbergJun 19, 2017

Just a few weeks after his arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence, Tiger Woods explained Monday that he is receiving professional help.

"I'm currently receiving professional help to manage my medications and the ways that I deal with back pain and a sleep disorder," the golf star said in a on his Twitter account. "I want to thank everyone for the amazing outpouring of support and understanding especially the fans and players on tour."

After his arrest, Woods said alcohol was not involved and he had "an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications," per Kristina Sgueglia and Jill Martin of CNN.com.

Woods has dealt with a variety of injuries in recent years and most recently underwent fusion surgery on his back in April to provide relief for nerve pain.

"I haven't felt this good in years," he said on his personal website after the surgery.

Woods had planned to return to the sport, but played in just three tournaments in 2017 before the surgery. He missed the entire 2016 season and last competed in February when he was forced to withdraw from the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

The 14-time major champion last won a tournament in 2013.

While the 41-year-old remains confident he will return to golf on a full-time basis, the immediate hope is that he can overcome the obstacles currently standing in his way.
