Kristopher KnoxJun 14, 2017

The Nashville Predators put up a valiant fight in the Stanley Cup Final, but after six games, the Pittsburgh Penguins emerged victorious.

This is the second year in a row the Penguins have won the Cup, and it's the second year in a row team captain Sidney Crosby has earned the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoffs MVP.

As you can imagine, some Penguins fans haven't stopped celebrating since Sunday's Game 6.

Stanley Cup Highlights and Reactions

Crosby Stands Tall Again

Crosby entered the league with high expectations. That's what happens when you're deemed "the Next One" by folks in the hockey world at an early age.

While Crosby has not yet reached the level of the Great One, he's establishing himself as one of the top players of all time. He's a six-time All-Star and has now lifted the Stanley Cup three times.

"He shows up on the scoresheet a lot, but it's not only that for our room," Pittsburgh's Conor Sheary said, per Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "He does everything a leader should do, and he's proven that time in and time out. To see him get rewarded again with the Conn Smythe is pretty special."

Of course, Sheary is not alone:

Guentzel's Emergence

In addition to Crosby, rookie Jake Guentzel gave a glimpse of what's to come.

Guentzel registered a postseason-high 13 goals and produced the game-winning goals in Games 1 and 2 of the Final. In fact, the 22-year-old had five more goals than Crosby.

It's exciting to think about this partnership over the next few seasons. Guentzel was so good, in fact, some wondered if he was robbed of the Conn Smythe.

"While it's hard to argue against Sidney Crosby winning the Conn Smythe Trophy—the award given annually to the player judged most valuable to his team during the playoffs—those who believe it should have been Guentzel certainly have an argument," Dane Mizutani of the Twin Cities Pioneer Press wrote.

Can the Penguins Do It Again?

Does Pittsburgh have enough pieces in place to go for a third Stanley Cup in a row? Our friends at OddsShark think so, listing the Penguins as the favorites at 9-1.

Dan Rosen of NHL.com added: "Repeating is hard. Winning three in a row? Is there any real reason to go there? Yes, with these Penguins there is a reason. Many reasons."

The Penguins have pieces like Guentzel and Crosby in place. They have a young goalie in Matt Murray. They have a coach in Mike Sullivan who knows how to get championship performances out of his roster. Perhaps they'll also have the motivation of a possible three-peat to jump-start next season.

"I don't know, we've got to rethink that," Sullivan said, per Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post. "We'll probably sit in the summertime and try to figure out a way to inspire this group again."
