Manchester United Transfer News: Fabinho Reportedly Not Wanted, Latest Rumours
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly ruled out any chance of signing AS Monaco's Fabinho this summer.
James Robson of the Manchester Evening News reported on Tuesday that United are "not in the race" for Fabinho, who played a crucial role in guiding Monaco to last season's Ligue 1 title.
Michael Carrick recently penned a one-year contract extension at Old Trafford but is likely to leave the club next summer, and the Red Devils are trying to identify his successor.

According to Robson, Chelsea's Nemanja Matic and Tottenham Hotspur utility Eric Dier, who can also play at centre-back, remain on United's shortlist of stars to fill the holding midfield vacancy.
Fabinho was also among a number of stars at the Stade Louis II that took Monaco to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals last term, and Robson hailed the Brazilian as a key component under manager Leonardo Jardim:
One piece of Monaco's puzzle, Bernardo Silva, has already left the club to join Manchester City ahead of the 2017-18 campaign, and it's expected others could follow suit after they performed beyond expectations last term.
Blogger Liam Canning is another who recently expressed appreciation for Fabinho and what he could offer United—and not just in his current midfield position:
The 23-year-old has found a new home in front of the back four after initially settling at right-back, and Fabinho has proved himself to be proficient in both positions, offering more value to whomever should sign him.
But that won't be Mourinho, who is said to have drawn up a shortlist of four key signings, and despite sharing agent Jorge Mendes with the South American, Fabinho hasn't made the cut.
Ander Herrera rose to his most prominent role for United last season, but record signing Paul Pogba looked hampered at the time, largely as a result of the formation not fitting and no recognised midfield holder always present.
The addition of a player to relieve some of those stresses would aid in unleashing Pogba's potential to roam, but Fabinho reportedly won't be arriving as the saviour Mourinho seems aware his side is in need of.
