Joseph ZuckerJun 11, 2017

A patron of the Highline Ballroom filed a lawsuit against New York Jets linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin and others following an alleged assault on April 2, the New York Post's Larry Celona, Paul Schwartz and Bruce Golding.

Jean Lopez accused Mauldin of assault after Lopez spilled Champagne on him.

"It was not a fight, it was an attack," said Glenn Race, Lopez's lawyer in the suit.

Newsday's Kimberley A. Martin shared a statement from Mauldin's attorney, Mitchell Schuster:

"The Jets are aware of the situation but have no further comment at this time," a team spokesperson said to the New York Post.

Race said Lopez suffered "multiple maxillofacial fractures" that required "numerous plates" to repair after he was hospitalized. The New York Post posted a photo of Lopez from the hospital:

Charges haven't been filed against Mauldin, but Race said the New York Police Department and Manhattan District Attorney's Office are investigating the allegations.

The Jets selected Mauldin in the third round of the 2015 NFL draft. He has appeared in 26 games for the team over two years, compiling 33 combined tackles.
