Kyle Busch Team Punished by NASCAR for Safety Violation

NASCAR announced Wednesday it suspended three members of Kyle Busch's team for four races after a tire came off the No. 18 car at the AAA 400 Drive for Autism last Sunday.

Crew chief Adam Stevens, tire changer Jacob Seminara and tire carrier Kenneth Barber will all miss the next four events.

During the race, Busch's pit crew took the car off the jack before the left rear tire had been secured. As a result, the tire came loose as Busch made his way around Dover International Speedway.

While some may feel NASCAR is unduly punishing what was an unintentional mistake, NASCAR writer Jeff Gluck thought the rulings followed the letter of the law:

Losing his crew chief for four races wouldn't be an ideal scenario, but the playoffs don't start until September. He still has plenty of time to find the victory that will assure him a place in the top 16.

Through 13 races, Busch is 11th in the playoff standings with 416 points.
