The Browns were a league-worst 1-15 under Jackson last season.
Jackson coached the Oakland Raiders to an 8-8 record in 2011 before moving on as an assistant with the Cincinnati Bengals for the next four seasons.
Despite Jackson's struggles last season, Browns Executive Vice President of Football Operations Sashi Brown gave him a vote of confidence late in the campaign and decided to retain him.
