4-Star QB Prospect Justin Fields Decommits from Penn State
Justin Fields, a 4-star quarterback prospect, announced he was decommitting from Penn State and reopening his commitment in a Twitter post Tuesday:
Fields is the No. 23 overall player and third-ranked quarterback in the 2018 class, per Scout.com. He announced his verbal commitment to the Nittany Lions in December.
Penn State has now lost three Class of 2018 recruits in the past two months. Touted defensive end Micah Parsons and offensive tackle Chris Bleich each announced they were reopening their commitment in April. Parsons and Fields were seen as two of the major cornerstones of a recruiting class that was shaping up to be one of the nation's best.
Scout.com now ranks the Lions sixth nationally after spending most of the early process in the top five.
Parsons and Fields have both said they'll keep Penn State in consideration, but it could be an uphill battle for head coach James Franklin. Parsons has visited Ohio State, and 247Sports gives the Buckeyes a 68 percent chance of landing the Harrisburg High School product.
Fields has offers from nearly every major school in the south. The Georgia product may wind up sticking close to home, with Florida, Georgia and Auburn standing out as contenders.
