WWE SmackDown: Potential Spoilers, Rumors, News and Preview for June 6

Ryan DilbertJun 6, 2017

In the march to Money in the Bank, WWE SmackDown is set to deliver a pair of top-notch matches.

AJ Styles will take on Dolph Ziggler for the second week in a row. Shinsuke Nakamura will battle Kevin Owens in a dream bout come to life.

All four of those men will collide in the namesake ladder match of the Money in the Bank pay-per-view. They will be looking for momentum en route to that June 18 event. And they'll likely deliver a pair of barnburners in the process.

Tuesday's SmackDown is poised to also hype the women's Money in the Bank ladder match, welcome The New Day to the blue brand and potentially see a member of The Hype Bros finally get off the bench.

Rochester, New York, will host it all. Backstage news, social media updates and the SmackDown preview on WWE.com provide a look at what to expect when the show kicks off Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on USA Network.

News, Potential Spoilers

Even though the bulk of the women's division will be fighting for the right to face her, Naomi may not be idle at Money in the Bank.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Nick Paglino of Wrestle Zone) WWE plans to have two women's matches on the Money in the Bank card including a title bout with Naomi. With so many women involved in the ladder match, it's not clear who would step up to the champ.

Perhaps that's what Lana will be up to following her upcoming debut as a solo act.

And she may make it to the SmackDown stage before her husband. Rusev seems to be in narrative purgatory at the moment.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats), the decision to crown Jinder Mahal led to the company changing its plans for Rusev. There is reportedly no new story for him at the moment.

The blue brand may continue to be Rusev-less as a result.

Mojo Rawley, though, may earn himself some air time. The ever-hyped powerhouse hasn't wrestled on TV since April and has been trying to convince SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon to give him an opportunity.

Rawley's latest message to McMahon came in the following video:

This could turn out to be a part of a storyline, one that brings Rawley back into the ring.

SmackDown Streaks

Sami Zayn is on a bit of a roll of late.

Per CageMatch.net, Zayn is on a three-match winning streak. He's won his last two SmackDown bouts and knocked off Baron Corbin at Backlash last month.

It's not clear if this is leading anywhere, but the recent success will at least make Zayn look like a bigger threat to the Money in the Bank ladder match field come June 18.

The Colons are experiencing the reverse of Zayn.

The heel tag team's latest bout saw them lose to Breezango on the most recent SmackDown. That continued a growing losing streak. Primo and Epico have lost three TV matches in a row, per CageMatch.net. They are now 1-3 since joining SmackDown.

Someone's got to play the punching bag while teams like Breezango and The New Day move upward, and it appears The Colons are stuck in that role for the moment.

Onward to Money in the Bank

The New Day leaped into the tag team title picture immediately upon its arrival last Tuesday. Xavier Woods, Big E and Kofi Kingston challenged The Usos in their first appearance on the blue brand since coming over via the Superstar Shake-up.

And now a SmackDown Tag Team Championship match awaits them at the Money in the Bank PPV.

Before then, they will warm up against a pair of unnamed foes. The SmackDown preview on WWE.com noted that The New Day will make its in-ring debut on the blue brand Tuesday night.

The New Day is set to make its mark on SmackDown.

The women's division will feature tag team action of its own.

Everyone involved in the women's Money in the Bank ladder match will collide as Naomi, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair take on Natalya, Carmella and Tamina.

Naomi, Lynch and Flair have not been nearly a cohesive a unit as The Welcoming Committee, which we saw when the heels won at Backlash. And now Naomi has to fight alongside two women who may be vying for her title in a few weeks.

The men's Money in the Bank ladder match participants will clash in a pair of singles bouts to hype that show.

Ziggler will face Styles in a rematch from last week. The Showoff pinned Styles that time out in his home state of Georgia. Can Ziggler surprise Styles again?

Tuesday's main event is a match fans haven't seen since Nakamura and Owens wrestled for Ring of Honor.

Nakamura has twice defeated KO in tag team matches. It's time for the U.S. champ to gain some momentum and issue some payback. Neither he nor Nakamura want to stumble into the upcoming ladder match.

If WWE gives these two artists space to work, it promises to be an electric clash, one worthy of a PPV.
